Student & Graduate Recruitment Process
Stage 1: Online Application
Applicants are required to apply through Civil Services Fast Stream's official job application portal. The application asks a set of questions about who you are, your education and your experience. It normally takes around 30 mins to complete.
Stage 2: Online Tests
The first stage consists of three online tests, a work style questionnaire, a situational judgment questionnaire, and a numerical test. You'll be asked to weigh up options and make decisions on different scenarios, perform calculations, solve problems, and evaluate and interpret numerical information.
These are designed to test a range of key strengths and behaviours and should take you around 120 minutes in total, but they aren't timed.
Stage 3: Work-based Scenarios
At this stage, you'll take two more online tests. In the first video-based test, you'll be asked to take on an imaginary role, complete several tasks, and review a number of fictional issues. In the second test you will be assessed on your learning ability. You adopt a fictional role over the course of two video-based fast stream postings, learning and responding to a series of challenges and situations, and adapting to the changes you are presented with. These tests should take around 90 minutes, but they aren't timed.
Stage 4: Additional Information
If you are suscessful in Stage 2 and 3, you'll be asked to provide additional information to go alongside your application. Not everyone will be required to provide additional information. But please keep an eye out for communications from the fast stream.
Stage 5: Virtual Assessment Centre
Before the assessment centre, you'll get access to the Fast Stream Assessment Center guide. This will give you practical tips, tricks and example exercises to help you prepare.
The Assessment Center will take place over half a day and consist of a leadership scenario, a team scenario, and a written scenario.
These will test your ability to collaborate, make decisions, and develop ideas on the day. The most important thing to remember is to be yourself.
Stage 6: Final Selection Boards
The final stage of the assessment process is the final selection board. The majority of schemes have this stage but not all do, so it's worth checking your scheme requirements. If you've got this far, you'll take part in a scheme specific assessment.
What happens during this assessment will depend on the scheme you've applied for.
Stage 7: Offer and Feedback
Following the final assessment, candidates receive feedback and are informed about the outcome of their application. You will receive a job offer if you are successful.
